With a hybrid cable, parts of the data are transmitted via optical fibers (light signals) and the other part with copper wires.

The advantage of such an active optical cable is that a much longer transmission distance can be reached, because light signals are much less sensitive compared to electrical signals. Furthermore, hybrid cables are lighter in weight and have a smaller cable diameter compared to pure copper cables (on comparable length).
